Benisuef Governorate
Benisuef governorate is included in the regional planning of the Northern Upper Egypt region which includes (Benisuef, El Fayoum and El Minia). It is bounded in the north by El Giza governorate, in the south by El Minia governorate, in the east by The Red Sea governorate and El Sewees and in the west by El Fayoum governorate. The total area of the governorate is about 7169 Km2.
Being one of the Northern Upper Egypt governorates, this vital region which connects northern Egypt with southern Egypt, had the most effect on the composition and the characteristics of Benisuef. In addition to that, its nearness from Cairo and El Giza which have a population, commercial and economical weight, and its nearness from The Red Sea, El Sewees, El Fayoum and Ismailia, all of that help marketing industrial and agricultural products existing in the governorate.
The total area of the farmed lands in Benisuef is about 264451 acres. The total area of the lands that can be reclaimed for farming is about 51921 acres. The governorate has an advanced rank in the production of wheat, cotton, garlic, onion in addition to medicinal and aromatic plants.
Egypt has a competitive feature in lots of unusual plants like medicinal and aromatic plants and flowers. Benisuef is considered one of the most important governorates that produces that kind of plants.
The land farmed with this kind of plants in Benisuef has an area of 45000 acres in 2005, this area can be increased to 200000 acres, 10000 acres of them are for export which can be increased to 154000 acres.
The governorate also contributes in the industrial activities such as cement, clay bricks and textile and handmade carpets as a small industry.
